Your opinion on social networking and online dating?

Technology has briskly taken a hold of the rapidly advancing world we live in, but I'm still unsure as to what I think of these. Plainly, they just don't make sense. For example, why text someone when you can talk on the phone or actually get together? Social networking...?...an unnecessary place where I often witness others endlessly jabbering about their life and advertising their relationships when no one really cares. Honestly, what's the point? It's kind of sad, really, that we as humans have deemed it a necessity to be able to hide behind the safety of a computer screen and communicate that way. On several occasions, I have seen people using Facebook as a way to receive sympathy and attention for all the wrong things. It truly is stupid. I am not saying that I have anything against these this kind of technology, so I really do not care for foolish answers, only what you think on this matter.
